Maaden is committed to operating responsibly and respectfully across all areas of our business, in line with the ICMM Position Statement on Indigenous Peoples and Mining.
While the context of indigenous rights and customs may differ globally, we recognize the importance of respecting the cultural, historical, and social significance of land-connected tribal peoples and respect their rights traditions, cultures, and perspectives wherever we operate, including mineral exploration, project development and operations, and site-closure.
We believe in building meaningful partnerships, recognizing that these require both respect and the active upholding of rights, consistent with the second pillar of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We are committed to engaging through open dialogue, recognizing traditional knowledge, and ensuring their voices are heard in our decision-making processes. We strive to create positive social and economic opportunities that are culturally appropriate and contribute to the well-being of land-connected tribal peoples in the regions where we operate.
We will be guided by the aims of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP). We are committed to seeking the agreement and free, prior and informed consent of affected land-connected tribal peoples to the impacts that may arise from our activities.
